This subject introduces important mathematical methods required in engineering such as manipulating vector differential operators, computing multiple integrals and using integral theorems. A range of ordinary and partial differential equations are solved by a variety of methods and their solution behaviour is interpreted. The subject also introduces series including the concepts of convergence and divergence. Topics include: Vector calculus, including Gauss’ and Stokes’ Theorems; systems of homogeneous ordinary differential equations, including phase plane and linearisation for nonlinear systems; Laplace transforms; series, including Taylor series and power series; Fourier series and Fourier integrals; second order partial differential equations and separation of variables.

Field crop production is a major component of Australia’s economy, and landholders manage their resources to balance environmental, economic and social demands. This subject discusses how these resources are managed to produce high quality crop products. Topics include: An appraisal of the cropping enterprises in southern Australia - the location, scale and nature of cropping enterprises and their contribution to the national economy Growth, development and yield in crop production - definitions and relations between growth and development attributes, yield and yield components, measurement of crop yields, biological and economical yield and harvest index (complemented by field exercises) Environmental constraints limiting productivity - climate and growing season, water and nutrient availability Agronomic management to optimise production and product quality, including water and nutrient management, soil management and rotations Problems and prospects of both dryland and irrigated crop production within farm systems, comparative cost-return analysis, marketing strategies

This course introduces and demonstrates how marketing theory and practice is used on the internet. Particular attention is given to techniques unique to the world wide web environment, and practice enhanced by the social networked nature of the internet. The focus of this course covers online consumer behaviour, internet strategy (including business models), internet marketing communications, and analytics.

Strategic marketing builds on the concepts and skills learned in other marketing subjects. The subject presents an opportunity for students to learn, examine and apply strategic marketing decision processes with the goals of establishing, maintaining, or improving the firm’s competitive advantage. Topics include: strategic analysis (ie.external analysis, competitor analysis, market analysis, product portfolio analysis, environmental analysis and dealing with strategic uncertainty, internal analysis), alternative business strategies (ie. differentiation strategies, growth strategies, strategies in declining and hostile markets), implementation and the planning process.
